Game Notes

Blue Jays rally for a 6-4 win over the Yankees.

Toronto puts together a 3-run 8th inning after letting a 3-0 lead slip away when New York strikes for 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th. The Yankees had recovered from the early deficit thanks to a strong relief effort by Bob Shirley, but Mike Armstrong and Jay Howell quickly make waste of the effort in the 8th.

Armstrong gives up a walk to Damaso Garcia, who steals 2nd and then scores the tying run on Dave Collins' single. Howell then replaces Armstrong and promptly allows a walk, a stolen base, a wild pitch and then a Sac Fly to George Bell to give up the lead. Tony Fernandez adds an RBI single for insurance.

Jim Clancy had put together a strong start except for the 6th inning meltdown, when he loads the bases after retiring the leadoff batter. Don Mattingly's Sac Fly gets the Yankees on the board and then Dave Winfield follows with a 3-run HR.
