Chicago withstands a 9th-inning rally to claim the sweep and win its 5th straight. Paul Kilgus' bid for a complete game shutout is scuttled by an error in the 9th. He goes 8 2/3 innings, allowing 7 hits and 2 runs before Mitch Williams gets the final out.

The Cubs tag Scott Terry early for runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings. A groundout by Domingo Ramos in the 2nd scores Andre Dawson, and Pedro Guerrero mishandles a pickoff throw in the 3rd allowing Jerome Walton to score. Vance Law singles home an insurance run in the 8th.
