San Francisco wins it when John Frascatore issues a bases-loaded walk to Bill Mueller after failing to find the strike zone on any of 4 pitches. Frascatore entered in the 9th and allowed a 1-out double to Brian Johnson and then allowed a pair of walks after recording a 2nd out, loading the bases.

St. Louis tagged Orel Hershiser for a run in the 1st on Ray Lankford's RBI single. Hershiser goes 7 innings, while Cliff Politte ran out of gas in the bottom of the 7th, allowing a leadoff single to Jeff Kent. Kent later came around to score after Mark Petkovsek takes over for Politte.
