The Cubs had let 2 runs escape them on the bases. St. Louis breaks a 1-1 tie with a solo HR by Tommy Herr and RBI single by Jim Lindeman in the bottom of the 7th. The Cardinals answer against Danny Cox in the top of the 8th with a solo HR by Leon Durham and RBI single by Jim Sundberg.
