New York breaks loose in the bottom of the 9th to rescue a stellar start by Rick Reed. Reed goes the distance, allowing 6 hits and no walks with the lone run being unearned after Luis Lopez boots a 2-out grounder in the 8th opening the door to the game's 1st run on a double by Eric Young.

Carlos Perez, making his 1st start for Los Angeles, tossing 7 innings of 2-hit, 6-walk effort. However, the Mets come alive in the 9th against Jeff Shaw. Matt Franco delivers a pinch-hit solo HR into the rightfield stands to tie it and then Todd Hundley follows with a pinch walk and scores on Edgardo Alfonso's 2-out double.
