Cleveland is able to answer each Detroit challenge, relying on some unlikely sources. Late-season addition Coco Crisp gives the Indians an early lead with a 2-run HR off Buck Farmer. He later scores an insurance run in the 8th after the Tigers pull within 5-4.

Ninth-place hitter Roberto Perez collects 3 hits and drives in 2 for Cleveland. His solo HR in the 7th gives the Indians a 5-3 lead.
