Ron Darling cruised along through 5 innings before the Cubs break out in the 6th. Chicago loads the bases with 1 out when Vance Law executes a perfect bunt for a base hit, scoring Rafael Palmeiro to tie the score. Damon Berryhill and Dave Martinez follow with RBI singles, and Law scores when Mackey Sasser loses the ball on a play at the plate.

Shawon Dunston drives in 2 more before the inning is over for a 6-1 lead. Palmeiro leads the Cubs' 12-hit attack with 3 singles.
