Cubs beat up on the Mets in 10-3 rout.

Greg Maddux goes the distance after giving up 2 early runs as the top of Chicago's order erupts against New York pitchers. The Cubs' 1-3 hitters, Jerome Walton, Ryne Sandberg and Dwight Smith, go a combined 10-of-14 with 8 runs, 4 RBI and 1 walk.

The Mets tag Maddux with 2 runs in the top of the 2nd, but Wally Whitehurst making his 1st MLB start is unable to survive the Cubs' in the 3rd inning. Sandberg sparks Chicago with a 2-run HR, and then Damon Berryhill follows a Sac Fly by Andre Dawson with a solo HR. Smith and Mark Grace add back-to-back RBI singles in the 4th for a 6-2 lead. The Cubs tack on 3 more runs in the 6th to break the game open.
