Sammy Sosa has a pair of 2-run HRs to lead Chicago's outburst. Gary Gaetti has a Grand Slam of Octavio Dotel in a 7-run 1st and drives in 5 while Jose Hernandez also drives in 5. Sosa's 2-run HR in the 2nd gives the Cubs a 9-3 lead.

However, Jon Lieber is unable to hold the lead as New York pounds out 18 hits. Robin Ventura goes 4-of-5 with 6 RBIs, including a pair of 2-run HRs, the 2nd coming in the 5th when the Mets tie the game.

The Cubs regain the lead on Jeff Reed's RBI double in a 2-run bottom of the 5th. Chicago extends the lead to 15-9 on an RBI single by Sosa and 3-run HR by Hernandez in the 6th.
