Cubs rally to beat the Mets 7-5.

Chicago overcomes an early 5-0 deficit to beat New York after retiring Billy Williams' number in pre-game ceremonies. Jody Davis' bases-loaded double off Roger McDowell breaks a 5-5 tie in the 8th.

The Mets chased Mike Mason after retiring just 2 batters in the first as he allows 3 walks, a 2-run HR to Tim Teufel and a single. New York tacks on 3 more runs off Les Lancaster in the 2nd. However, Dwight Gooden is unable to hold the lead.

Dave Martinez cuts into the deficit with a 3-run HR in the 3rd, and the Cubs tie it with 2 runs in the 5th.

New York threatens in the 9th after Lee Smith replaces Frank DiPino with 2 outs. Smith gives up a pair of singles and a walk to load the bases before striking out Dave Magadan.
