San Francisco converts a mistake into a win to beat New York. The Giants capitalize after Carlos Baerga's swipe tag misses Barry Bonds on a stolen base attempt in the 8th. Jeff Kent immediately follows with a double off Greg McMichael to score the tie-breaker.

Pitching had been in control as Orel Hershiser and Masato Yoshii keep the opposing lineups in check. The Mets took a 2-0 lead on Brian McRae's RBI double in the 3rd and John Olerud's solo HR in the 4th.

San Francisco gets on the scoreboard with Rich Aurilia's RBI single in the 4th and scores the tying run when J.T. Snow grounds into a bases-loaded double play in the 5th.
