Martinez strikes out 17 batters, setting a record for Yankee Stadium while one-hitting New York. Chili Davis' 2nd inning homer is only hit allowed by the Boston ace who also allows no walks in his dominant performance.

The Red Sox break through in the 6th when Nomar Garciaparra leads off with a walk against Andy Pettitte and Mike Stanley follows with a HR to right. Jose Offerman adds an RBI single in the 9th.
