California gets a big day from Chad Curtis, who goes 4-of-5 with a run and 2 RBI, leading a 13-hit attack. Curtis singles home and insurance run in the 8th to give the Angels a 2-run lead which is important when Scott Livingstone homers for Detroit in the 9th.

The Angels strike for 4 runs in the 1st 2 innings against Bill Krueger. The Tigers tag Mark Langston for 4 runs before he departs with a strained muscle after 3 innings. Damion Easley also adds 3 hits and 2 runs for California.
