Games Notes

Tigers out last the Red Sox for 8-7 win.

Detroit bursts a 5-5 tie in the 9th with a 3-run inning, and then Mike Henneman barely closes out the game, giving up a pair of runs before retiring Andre Dawson on a pop up. The two teams combined for 29 hits.

Chad Kreuter does most of the damage for the Tigers with a single, double, a homer and 4 RBI. Kreuter's double off Cory Bailey in the 9th drives in the go-ahead run, and then he scores on Danny Bautista's 2-run single.

Mickey Tettleton also collects 4 hits on a night when the bats prevail as starters John Doherty and Danny Darwin both stagger through 7 and 8 innings, respectively, a night after the teams play a high-scoring doubleheader, with one game going 11 innings.
