Kansas City prevails late in a pitchers' duel between Bret Saberhagen and Walt Terrell. Saberhagen goes 8, allowing 6 hits, no walks, and just a single run in the 6th when Tom Brookens triples with 1 out and scores on Lou Whitaker's double.

The Royals answer Detroit in the bottom of the 6th when Angel Salazar and Willie Wilson start the inning with a double and single and Salazar scores on Kevin Seitzer's ground out. Terrell allowed just 3 hits thru 7 innings before Salazar leads off with a double and scores on Seitzer's 1-out double.
