Game Notes

Yankees stage a miracle rally as the Blue Jays meltdown in a 10-6 decision.

New York rallies for 5 runs in the 8th to tie it, and goes ahead on Paul O'Neill's Grand Slam in the 9th. After Roy Halladay turns in a very strong effort through 7 innings, the wheels come off for Toronto in the 8th. A botched routine rundown opens the doors keeping the inning alive. After Derek Jeter singles home the 1st run cutting the gap to 6-2, Darrin Fletcher can't handle a single play in front of the plate, allowing New York to load the bases and then Billy Koch pours gas on the fire, giving up a Grand Slam to Bernie Williams.

Koch's night gets worse in the 9th as another error starts a Yankees' rally, and then Koch proceeds to load the bases before he's relieved. Paul Spoljaric enters and promptly gives up a Grand Slam to O'Neill.

The Blue Jays had been in control after a pair of 2-run HRs off David Cone by Shawn Green and Fletcher. Cone strikes out 10, but doesn't match Halladay's control.
