#2 Jayhawks survive in OT, beat the #18 Spartans 96-86.

Kansas sees a 9-point lead slip away and require a last minute rally to force overtime before winning it as Calvin Thompson takes over. Thompson finishes with 26 points, being the key after Danny Manning and Ron Kellogg foul out. Thompson's 3-pointer puts the Jayhawks ahead for good, 87-84.

Michigan State appeared poised for the win, leading 80-74 but is done in by a malfunction and misfires. The scoring table makes a mistake and freezes the clock for 15 seconds w/ 2:20 left. Its a critical error when Kansas ties the game at the buzzer. The Spartans contributed, missing the front end of a pair of 1-and-1s.

Scott Skiles leads Michigan State with 20 points, while Vernon Carr adds 17 and Larry Polec contributes 16. Manning scores 17 for the Jayhawks before fouling out. Archie Marshall scores 16 off the bench.
