Tigers swat back the Cougars 94-83.

LSU withstands a 2nd half rally by Brigham Young while riding big performances by Shaquille O'Neal and Maurice Willamson. The Cougars came out hot in the 2nd half, and erased a 7-point deficit to take the lead. But the Tigers responded, holding a lead of 4 to 6 points before pulling away late.

WIlliamson leads the way with 30 points from the backcourt. Meanwhile, O'Neal dominates the front court, scoring 26 points while pulling down 13 rebounds and blocking a NCAA tournament record 11 shots. O'Neal's presence was reflected in BYU's shooting which dipped from a season average of 50% to 27.5% in the 1st half. Gary Trost, BYU's All-WAC center, ends up with just 8 points and 6 rebounds before fouling out.
