North Carolina finishes with a flourish to avoid the big upset by 13th-seeded Miami (O.). The Redskins, behind solid 3rd point shooting, had led through much of the 2nd half before succumbing to the Heels' strength. Eric Montross led North Carolina with 22 points, and Hubert Davis managed to add 15 points with 11-of-11 shooting from the line to offset a horrid 2-of-17 from the floor.

Jamie Mercurio leads Miami (O.) hitting 8-of-14 from the 3-point range, scoring 24 points, while David Scott adds 15.
