East Carolina sprints to a 34-0 lead in the 1st half, and then coasts to the victory as Texas Tech gradually closes to make it respectable. David Garrard throws for 229 yards and 1 TD and runs for another.

The Pirates set the tone early, striking with a 6-yard TD run by Garrard on the opening drive, then adding a 71-yard TD on a punt return by Keith Stokes after the Red Raiders' 1st series. Leonard Henry adds the 1st of his 2 TD runs to extend the lead to 20-0 before the end of the 1st quarter.
