Washington withstands UCLA's rally in a battle of huge swings, to stay alive in the Rose Bowl hunt. Rich Alexis and Willie Hurst combine for 226 yards rushing, and the Huskies recover a late onside kick and then force a fumble in the final minute to preserve the win.

Marques Tuiasosopo throws the 1st of his 2 TD passes helping Washington to a 14-0 lead. However, UCLA responds with 21 straight to take a lead into the half. But the Huskies begin the 2nd half with 21 straight to take a 35-21 lead. Tuiasosopo adds 111 yards passing and 66 yards rushing, and hits Todd Ellstrom with a 2-yard TD pass to put Washington up 35-21 before the Bruins close with a 7-yard TD pass from Cory Paus to Brian Poli-Dixon to make the Huskies sweat out the final minutes.
