Ken Simonton rushes for 234 yards and 3 TDs as Oregon State takes advantage of mistake-prone Southern Cal. The Trojans suffer 3 INTs, a missed FG, and several costly penalties.

Southern Cal loses 1 TD on a penalty with the score tied 14-14, and then misses a chip shot FG. The Beavers take the lead on Simonton's 2-yard TD run in the 4th quarter after the Trojans fumble at their own 6-yard line. A 49-yard pass on 3rd down on the next series is whipped out by a penalty, and then Oregon State extends the lead to 24-14 on the ensuing possession.
