Arizona gets off to a blistering start, building a 20-0 lead in the 1st quarter before holding off any comeback attempts by Arizona State. Jason Johnson throws for 2 TDs and runs for another to lead the Wildcats, and Charles Farmer rushes for 158 yards and 1 TD.

Johnson hits Bobby Wade with a 19-yard TD pass to cap the opening drive and then adds a 6-yard run later in the 1st quarter before Farmer's 20-yard TD run. Wade catches a career-high 11 passes for 157 yards. The Sun Devils close within 20-14 before Johnson hits Malosi Leonard for a 10-yard TD pass in the 3rd quarter to restore Arizona's control of the game.
