Game Notes

#6 Wolverines get clocked by Spartans' rally in a 26-24 upset.

Michigan State gets 1 final play after the clock is stopped with 1 second remaining and Jeff Smoker buys time before hitting T.J. Duckett for a 2-yard TD pass as the Spartans' erase Michigan's 24-20 lead. The controversial finish caps a crazy final drive when the Wolverines commit 2 costly penalties, including one on 4th down, one of 2 4th-down conversions by Michigan State.

Michigan had made its own rally when the Spartans fumble while trying to control the ball and clock, setting up John Navarre's 20-yard TD pass to backup Jermaine Gonzales with 4:44 left. However, the defense can't hold the lead.

Duckett rushes 211 yards, most ever allowed by the Wolverines, and 1 TD. Michigan answers with Marquis Walker, who catches 9 passes for 150 yards and 2 TDs.
