North Carolina's defense dominates Auburn, allowing a methodical offense to do its damage. The Tar Heels hold the Tigers to 176 total yards and keep them out of the end zone until Daniel Cobb's 12-yard TD pass to Lorenzo Diamond w/ 1:18 left, following a botched punt attempt deep in Carolina territory. The Heels recover the onside kick to seal the win.

North Carolina's offense is conservative but produces enough big plays as Ronald Curry scrambles for a 62-yard TD run early in the 3rd quarter for a 16-3 lead. Willie Parker rushes for 131 yards and 1 TD, and adds a 43-yard run helping set up the Heels' FG drive in the 2nd quarter.
