Game Notes

Panthers avoid the upset, beat the Mountaineers 23-17.

Nick Lotz hits a pair of FGs in the 4th quarter to break a 17-17 tie after Pitt fails to convert on its opportunities and can't pull away from West Virginia, which plays much of the game without starting QB Brad Lewis. Rasheed Marshall takes over for the injured Lewis and runs for a TD and throws for another.

The Panthers are able to pile up huge statistical edges as David Priestley throws for 269 yards and 1 TD, and Antonio Bryant catches 11 passes for 186 yards and 1 TD, helping Pitt keep alive its bowl hopes.
