Stanford scores the final 21 points to deal Oregon its 1st loss. Trailing 42-41, Kerry Carter's 3-yard TD run puts the Cardinal ahead capping a miraculous comeback from a 42-28 deficit. Carter finishes with 100 total yards and 4 TDs.

Joey Harrington throws for 270 yards and 3 TDs and the Ducks appear well on their way to a 7-0 start. But Stanford doesn't roll over, with backup Chris Lewis hitting Luke Powell for a 24-yard TD pass, pulling the Cardinal within 42-35. The comeback appears complete when Carter scores on a 1-yard TD run w/ 5:32 left but PAT sails wide leaving Oregon ahead 42-41.
