Cardinals stays hot to top the Trojans 21-16.

After jumping out to a 21-0 halftime lead, Stanford withstands a rally by USC to improve to 3-0 for the 1st time since 1986. The Trojans close to within 21-16 on Kris Richard's 65-yard return of a blocked FG attempt, but Stanford stops USC on a 3-and-out to squash the Trojans' final hope.

Kerry Carter starts the Cardinal with a 4-yard TD run in the 1st quarter, and then Randy Fasani adds a pair of TD passes in the 2nd quarter. Fasani hits Luke Powell with a 34-yard TD pass and then Brett Pierce for a 2-yarder and a 21-0 edge. Carson Palmer throws for 240 yards but also suffers 2 INTs.
