West Virginia rushes for 536 yards in a game that features 1 fumble returned for a TD and 2 more recovered in the end zone for scores. However, Avon Cobourne and Quincy Wilson do their damage the convention way. Cobourne rushes for 260 yards and 2 TDs on 30 carries and Wilson adds 198 yards, including a 73-yard TD run that opens a 34-14 lead in the 3rd quarter.

East Carolina gets in front quickly when Kelly Hardy returns a fumbled pitch out 80 yards for a TD. However, Cobourne responds with a 52-yard TD run and then Arthur Harrison covers a fumbled punt in the end zone for a TD and 13-7 lead and Rasheed Marshall falls on his own fumble for a TD and 20-7 lead.
