Game Notes

Green Wave's big plays overcome the Rainbow Warriors 36-28.

Tulane gets big games from familiar sources, J.P. Losman and Mewelde Moore, but also from all-purpose Lynaris Elpheage. Elpheage, playing cornerback and some receiver, also returns kicks and punts for 200 yards, returning 1 punt 60 yards for a score and setting up another TD with a 56-yard return.

Hawaii had jumped out to a 14-0 start, but starting QB Timmy Chang is knocked out, and Tulane gradually starts moving the ball. Elpheage pulls the Green Wave within 14-12 with his TD return, and then sets up the go-ahead score on a 1-yard TD run by Losman with a long return to the Hawaii 17.

Losman throws for 240 yards and runs for 2 TDs and adds 2 2-point conversions. Moore has 196 combined yards, rushing and receiving. However, after Losman's 2nd TD gives Tulane a 34-21 lead, the Warriors rally, drawing within 34-28 on the 2nd TD pass from Shawn Withy-Allen to Justin Colbert.

Hawaii's hopes end when Withy-Allen is forced to fumble out of his own end zone late in the 4th quarter. Colbert catches 9 passes for 158 yards.
