Minnesota runs over Michigan State for 390 yards on the ground, led by Terry Jackson's 238 yards on 29 carries. Thomas Tapeh adds 147 yards and 1 TD. Asad Abdul-Khaliq contributes 2 TD passes.

The Spartans jump in front 7-0, but then the Gophers attack takes over and begins to grind down Michigan State's defense. Abdul-Khaliq hits Aaron Hosack for a 45-yard TD pass to tie it, and then Dan Nystrom's 2 FGs in the 2nd quarter puts Minnesota in front 13-7. Abdul-Khaliq hits Tony Patterson with a 27-yard TD pass in the 3rd quarter to extend the lead to 21-7.
