Game Notes

#5 Trojans rip the #3 Hawkeyes 38-17 in a tale of 2 QBs and 2 halfs.

Southern Cal breaks loose in the 2nd half after playing to a 10-10 draw in the 1st half, meanwhile Heisman winner Carson Palmer has a great night, while Heisman runnerup Brad Banks has his worst game. Palmer goes 21-of-31 for 303 yards and 1 TD, while Banks goes 15-of-36 for 204 yards with 1 TD, failing to reach the end zone until the final minute.

The Trojans force the halftime tie when Bernard Riley blocks a 28-yard FG attempt on the final play of the half. USC then breaks away from Iowa starting the 2nd half with an 18-yard TD pass from Palmer to Mike Williams and a 50-yard TD run by Justin Fargas.

Sultan McCullough and Sunny Byrd add TD runs to open a 38-10 lead before Banks finds Maurice Brown for a 18-yard TD pass w/ :54 to play, capping a night that started brilliantly for Iowa when C.J. Jones returns the opening kickoff 100 yards for a TD, but then quickly fades.
