Game Notes

#1 Crimson Tide KOs Colt McCoy, then #2 Longhorns for 37-21 victory.

Alabama claims its first national championship after weathering an early surge by Texas, that fades when McCoy is knocked from the game with a shoulder injury. After the Longhorns convert early chances to a pair of FGs, the Tide runs off 24 straight points in the 2nd quarter to grab control, then fights off a Texas rally in the 2nd half after the Longhorns close to within 24-21.

Heisman winner Mark Ingram runs for 116 yards and 2 TDs to lead the Tide. Ingram's 2-yard TD run early in the 2nd quarter puts Alabama ahead for good and then Trent Richardson follows with a 49-yard TD run. Alabama adds 10 points to the lead in the final minute of the half when it hits a FG and Marcel Dareus returns an INT 28 yards for a score after a foolish gamble by Texas.

McCoy's replacement, Garrett Gilbert, pulls Texas within 24-21 with a pair of TD passes to Jordan Shipley, but Ingram and Richardson answer with TD runs.
