Pirates get defensive to blow away the Golden Hurricane 44-17.

East Carolina jumps out to a 20-0 lead but then relies on 3 defensive scores to turn the game into a rout in the 4th quarter after Tulsa pulls to within 23-17. Darrell Pinkney throws for 275 yards and 2 TDs, and the Pirates outgain the Hurricane 517-to-266.

However, its turnovers that make the difference. Tulsa closes to within 6 when G.J. Kinne hits Damaris Johnson with a 9-yard TD pass in the 3rd quarter. But East Carolina's defense makes the plays. Emanuel Davis returns an INT 42 yards for a TD, and then Levin Neal returns another INT 57 yards for a score and Jay Ross closes things out with a 49-yard return of a fumble for a TD.
