Game Notes

#1 Gators dodge the Bulldogs' upset bid to win 29-19.

Florida overcomes a pair of INT returns for TDs and rides its defense to the Gators' first win in Starkville since 1985. Florida appears on the verge of extending its 13-3 lead over Mississippi State late in the 1st half when Jonathan Banks picks off Tim Tebow and returns it 100 yards for a TD w/ :27 left in the 2nd quarter.

Derek DePasquale's 31-yard FG early in the 2nd half draws the Bulldogs even. The Gators regain the lead on Calen Sturgis' 3rd FG of the game, and then Chris Rainey adds an 8-yard TD run for a 22-13 lead in the 4th quarter. Florida extends the lead with a controversial score after Dustin Doe's 23-yard INT return appears to be about 22 1/2 yards before he's stripped off the ball while showboating.

Banks answers Doe's TD return with his 2nd INT return of the game, picking Tebow and returning it 20 yards for a score w/ 3:51 remaining. Tebow is below par, throwing for 127 yards and 2 INTs while rushing for 88 yards and 1 TD.
