Illini jump on the Gophers and then hang on for a 35-32 win.

Illinois gets a 22-yard TD pass from Juice Williams to Jeff Cumberland and then a 44-yard INT return for a score by Terry Hawthorne to go up 14-0 in the 1st quarter. Justin Green and Jason Ford add short TD runs in the 2nd quarter for a 28-7 lead at the half.

However, the Illini must hold off a big 4th quarter rally by Minnesota. The Gopher close to within 28-25 on a 10-yard TD pass from Adam Weber to Jon Hoese and a 3-yard TD run by Hoese. Illinois appears to seal the win when Jacob Charest hits Arrelious Benn with a 4-yard TD pass w/ 5:10 left, but Minnesota strikes again when Ben Kuznia returns a blocked punt 3 yards for a TD forcing the Illini to stop a final drive.
