Starting true freshman QB Matt Barkley, USC is shut out in the 1st quarter as San Jose State goes up 3-0. But the flood gates open in the 2nd quarter as Stafon Johnson runs for a pair of TDs and Allen Bradford and Joe McKnight each add one. McKnight's 54-yard TD run in the 3rd quarter opens a 35-3 lead.

Barkley gets involved in the scoring with a 4-yard TD pass to Rhett Ellison in the 3rd quarter. Barkley, the first true freshman QB to start an opener for USC, goes 15-of-19 for 233 yards and 1 TD. He gets plenty support from a running game that amasses 342 yards, including 145 yards from McKnight.
