Game Notes

#6 Nittany Lions escape with a 26-25 win over the Owls.

Temple nearly stuns Penn State in the 1st meeting since 1952, but fall victim to big returns. A 66-yard punt return by Woodie Petchel's 66-yard punt return sets up the game-winning TD, a 3-yard run by Duane Taylor for a 26-23 lead in the 4th quarter.

Earlier, Rich Mauti returned a kickoff 100 yards for a TD in the 2nd quarter to pull the Nittany Lions within 10-9. After Taylor's 1-yard TD run in the 3rd quarter gives Penn State an 18-13 lead, the Owls battle back and take a 23-18 lead on Anthony Anderson's 6-yard TD run early in the 4th quarter.
