Game Notes

#11 Bruins upset the #1 Buckeyes 23-10.

UCLA turns the tables in the 2nd half and overturns Ohio State's National Championship hopes. Trailing 3-0 at the half, the Bruins come alive behind Wendell Tyler and John Sciarra.

Tyler cuts through the Buckeyes for 176 yards and 1 TD, while Sciarra hits 13-of-19 for 202 yards and 2 TD passes. Wally Henry is the prime target, catching 5 passes for 113 yards and both TDs.

After drawing even with a FG on the opening drive of the 2nd half, Sciarra hits Henry for a 16-yard TD and then for 67-yarder to open a 16-3 lead in the 3rd quarter. The Buckeyes answer back with a 3-yard TD run by Pete Johnson to keep their title hopes alive, but Tyler responds with a 54-yard across the field TD run to break their back.

Heisman Trophy winner, Archie Griffin rushes for 93 yards and Johnson adds 70 yards, but Ohio State is unable to convert on its opportunities following turnovers, whereas UCLA makes good with its chances.
