Art Schlichter caps an 80-yard drive with a 3-yard TD pass to Paul Campbell in the back of the end zone with :46 left to lift Ohio State to the win. Schlichter goes 6-of-6 on the drive, finishing 13-of-22 for 159 yards.

UCLA had jumped in front early after a blocked punt by Billy Don Jackson sets up Rick Bashore's 10-yard TD pass to William Curran. The Bruins extend the lead to 10-0, before Ohio State comes to life in the 2nd with Calvin Murray scoring on a 34-yard draw. Ohio State eventually draws even, but Peter Boermeester's 2nd FG regains the lead for UCLA.

Boermeester misses on a 23-yarder with 2:21 left, setting the stage for the Buckeyes' final drive.
