Houston jumps on Navy from the very start, converting a fumble on the 1st play into a 1-yard TD run by Terald Clark. A blocked punt sets up Terry Elston's 1-yard keeper to give Houston a 14-0 lead after just 2 possessions.

David Barrett adds a 14-yard TD run in the 2nd quarter, and following a fumble on the ensuing kickoff Clark breaks loose for a 26-yard TD run on the next play. Clark earns MVP honors with 162 yards rushing, and adds a 3rd TD run in the 2nd half.
