Pitt shuts down South Carolina and Heisman winner George Rogers. Rogers rushes for 113 yards but its not enough to overcome 5 turnovers.

The Panthers open a 17-3 lead in the 1st half on the strength of a 1-yard TD run by Rick Trocano and 3-yard TD pass from Dan Marino to Willie Collier. Pitt extends the lead to 34-3 in the 3rd quarter with the help of a 3-yard TD run by Randy McMillian and a 42-yard TD pass from Trocano to McMillian.
