After Florida drives for a TD on the opening possession, Miami takes over and rolls to the victory, even adding some salt to the rivalry when Danny Miller adds a 35-yard FG after the Hurricanes recover a fumble with :01 left. Jim Kelly throws for 191 yards and 2 TDs to lead Miami.

Wayne Peace's 15-yard TD pass to Tyrone Young to start the game is matched when Kelly hits Jim Joiner for a 15-yard TD pass on the ensuing possession. Mark Rush's 1-yard TD run in the 2nd quarter opens a 16-7 lead for the Hurricanes and Kelly adds another TD pass to Pat Walker for a 22-7 halftime lead.
