Southern Cal's running game out-performs Stanford's passing attack in a rout. Marcus Allen rushes for 196 yards and 2 TDs to lead the Trojans.

After Allen's 2 early TDs give Southern Cal a 12-0 lead, the Cardinals unleash their answer, when John Elway finishes a wild scramble with a 46-yard TD pass to Ken Margerum. Elway throws for 260 yards and keeps Stanford within striking distance at 18-9, but then Ronnie Lott returns a fumble 45 yards for a TD to break the game open.
