North Carolina withstands a furious 4th quarter rally by Clemson stopping the TIgers after they have a 1st-and-goal at the 1. Two big runs stops precede a sack by Lawrence Taylor and an incomplete pass on 4th down in the game's final minute.

Clemson had trailed 24-6 before riding a huge final quarter by Homer Jordan, who finishes with 207 yards passing. The Tar Heels had built the lead on the strength of 3 turnovers and a powerful running game that rolls up 285 yards rushing in the 1st 3 quarter behind the running of Kelvin Bryant, Amos Lawrence and Billy Johnson. Bryant and Lawrence both go over the 100-yard mark.
