Illini nip the Badgers 29-28.

Illinois wins it on Mike Bass' 46-yard FG as time expires after Wisconsin had taken a 28-26 lead moments early with a stunning play. Randy Wright had thrown a backward lateral to Al Toon, who then hits a wide-open Jeff Nault for a 40-yard TD pass with :52 left in the game.

After missing the PAT, the Badgers were left vulnerable to a winning FG attempt. Tony Eason exploited the chance as he had done through out, throwing for 479 yards and 1 TD.

The Badgers had taken a 20-9 lead on Wright's 46-yard TD pass to Toon in the 3rd quarter. However, the Illini with Eason hitting Oliver Williams for an 8-yard TD pass late in the 3rd quarter to cut the deficit to 20-15. A 1-yard TD run by Joe Curtis and the 4th of Bass' 5 FGs puts Illinois ahead 26-20.
