Freshman Bernie Kosar hits 22-of-32 for 216 yards and 1 TD as Miami deals Notre Dame its 2nd straight loss, turning up the heat on Gerry Faust. The Hurricanes stretch their defense's scoreless stretch to 11 quarters thanks to a pair of blocked FGs by Reggie Sutton.

Meanwhile, Kosar is efficient on offense. Speedy Neal gives Miami a 7-0 lead in the 1st quarter with a 2-yard TD pass, and Kosar extends it with a 12-yard TD pass to Eddie Brown in the 2nd quarter. The Hurricanes drain Notre Dame's hopes with a long 14-play drive to start the 2nd half that ends in a 27-yard FG by Jeff Davis for a 17-0 lead.
