Kevin Butler's 70-yard FG attempt on the final play falls a few feet short of the crossbar and victory for Georgia. Down 14-0 at halftime, Florida State rallies in the 2nd half. The Seminoles' rally is capped by a potential goat, as Joe Wessel, who was flagged for 3 roughing the kicker/punter penalties during the game, scoops up a blocked punt by Lenny Chavers and takes it in 14 yards for a TD. Darrin Holloman's 2-point conversion off a reverse ties it with 3:58 left.

Wessel then stops another late Georgia drive with an INT.

Georgia had taken a 14-0 lead in the 1st half on a pair of TD runs by Lars Tate, who rushes for 75 yards on 11 carries. The Seminoles cut the gap 14-9 on a 32-yard FG by Derek Schmidt in the 3rd quarter and Tony Smith's 1-yard TD run in the 4th quarter.
