Mike Clendenen nails 5 FGs to help Houston knock off unbeaten SMU and take control of the SWC race. The Mustangs spend much of the game chasing after Clendenen hits 2 early FGs and the Cougars are able to get their veer attack rolling.

Houston rushes for 247 yards and Gerald Landry leads the way. Landry also hits Carl Hilton with a long TD pass after SMU gets within 19-7 in the 3rd quarter.
