Kentucky comes up with the breaks to avoid the upset by Tulane as a fumble and 2 4th quarter interceptions loom large. The Wildcats break a 17-17 tie in the 3rd quarter when Matt Stein recovers a muffed punt in the end zone for a TD.

The Green Wave rally, taking a 26-24 lead behind Ken Karcher's passing. Karcher throws for 223 yards and 2 TDs. However, Karcher is picked off by Paul Calhoun in the 4th quarter to deny the upset bid. The Wildcats take the lead on George Adams' 3rd TD run as he leads the way with 139 yards.
